All stone cutting was carried out with copper chisels, to rough dress stone, balls of diorite were used
to pound the stone. Smoothness was obtained by rubbing or abrading the surface with a mixture of Quartz/sand and water.
Patience was the key word, they took their time.
Iron tools only became widely used in the greco-roman period.

Chech out the work of Denys Stocks who is an expert on Egyptian stone working.
