Actually, she didn't. Her succession to the throne was a gradual one. If she took an aggressive approach to the throne, some people may have revolted. You will find if you research her more that even with the clothes, she gradually, over time, wore one piece of pharaonic clothing at a time until people got used to the idea of her being pharaoh, before she end up wearing the whole pharaoh outfit. It was thought by past historians that she usurped the throne (meaning she took it suddenly by force). But in fact, the only way she could have become pharaoh was through a gradual process, or the shock of a female suddenly become pharaoh may have caused her to be rejected.
